ITB: Who Will Round Up 53-Man Roster on Offense?
The Philadelphia Eagles will have a lot of big decisions to round out the depth chart for their offense.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher offered an early roster projection for the offensive side of the ball.
Tanner McKee
Adam Caplan: “If the preseason tape is good again, he is going to be here to be their third quarterback.”
Geoff Mosher: “Last year, we had gotten used to the Eagles having a starter, a backup, and a developmental guy on the practice squad. McKee forced that hand because he was that good in the preseason games.”
Ty Davis-Price
Caplan: “Davis-Price got a $1.1 million guarantee in his contract. He has good size, is more of a zone runner. They believe he is a good fit. He can force his way on the roster as a fourth back.”
Mosher: “I think they keep four. Saquon Barkley has a fairly significant injury history and if he were to miss time, are you really comfortable with just (Kenny) Gainwell and Will Shipley?”
Britain Covey
Caplan: “He is in a tough spot. They now have competition for punt returner which they did not have last year. It is going to be hard for him to just be kept as a returner. We know he can play slot, but he is going to have competition.”
Mosher: “With Anias Smith making it, Cooper DeJean and Isaiah Rodgers as potential returners, I just don’t know if Covey makes this team. There are too many guys with return ability and his size and dimensions do not allow him to compete for a full-time number three slot position.”
C.J. Uzomah
Caplan: “Uzomah is a ‘Y’ tight end. They guaranteed over half over of his $1.4 million salary, but it is cuttable…They need him badly because without Jack Stoll, Uzomah is here for one reason: to block. You need a veteran…right now I am not keeping three [tight ends]”
Mosher: “It is cuttable, but it is significant to me that they guaranteed half of it.”
Darian Kinnard
Mosher: “They have always had a backup guard/tackle. Let’s put Kinnard in there.”
Caplan: “Kinnard can be your (Jack) Driscoll.”
