ITB: What Would Robinson, Kafka Bring to Eagles Offense?

Several names are popping up in the Philadelphia Eagles’ extensive search for their next playcaller.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan provided intel on the latest names surrounding the offensive coordinator search.

Geoff Mosher: “He is someone who comes from Atlanta last year under Raheem Morris, but he is really a branch from the (Sean) McVay tree. He spent several years under McVay with the Rams. When you talk to a guy like this, this is who he is and you have to decide if that’s how you want to be as an offense. A lot of under center, presnap motion, a lot of misdirection.”

Adam Caplan: “He was with McVay for five seasons, was the OC for the Falcons for just two, so he has only called plays for two years. But he was drafted into the league, really smart guy. I love that he has the McVay concepts.”

Brian Daboll

Mosher: “I think his offense really would fit the Eagles well. He has worked with a lot of different athletic quarterbacks, that helps. I don’t think the run game would be as much as him spicing up the pass game, which might be fine with Jeff Stoutland being the run game designer.”

Caplan: “He has called plays for so many different teams, has coached quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends. The coaches that worked with him in the four seasons with the Bills, one coach I talked to said it was one of the best coaching jobs he has ever seen, the way that he coached Josh Allen super hard…I’m told by two people that there are multiple teams with head coaching openings that are very interested in Daboll. He is highly in demand as a coordinator, not just the Eagles. It would be hard to get him, but it would be an absolute home run hire.”

Mike Kafka

Mosher: “He is obviously someone who is steeped into Andy Reid’s West Coast principles.”

Caplan: “Unfortunately during his tenure as the offensive coordinator [for the New York Giants], he was given playcalling and Daboll took it back. But the cool thing about what he did, talking to someone who coached with him, is he doesn’t see it like a lot of these Andy Reid guys…Kafka is big on trick plays. He sees it a little differently. Super smart guy, this coach said.”

Jim Bob Cooter

Mosher: “This to me would be Nick Sirianni bringing in his guy…He hasn’t called plays in Indianapolis.”

Caplan: “He was the sexy name in 2017 with the Lions because of (Matthew) Stafford…He has bounced around. He’s a really sharp guy, he’s a guy who was here in Philly so he knows about (Jalen) Hurts…I know he’s a good coach, I just want someone outside of this tree.”
