ITB: Which First-Year Are Making an Impact for the Eagles During Preseason?

by

The Philadelphia Eagles have a plethora of rookies who can soon contribute to the team.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed the latest on the team’s rookie class.

Drew Mukuba

Jihaad Campbell

Geoff Mosher: “The athleticism is what separates him…He is lightning, he is fast, he is hair on fire, and if he makes fewer mistakes, he starts alongside Zack Baun no questions asked.”

Adam Caplan: “A first round pick plays when he’s ready. It’s a mental thing with him, you have Trot Jr. [Jeremiah Trotter Jr.], who’s a processor but he’s not the athlete that Campbell is…Eventually, he’s going to start whether it’s Week 1, 5, 7, 9, and it’s going to be fun whenever it happens.”

Drew Mukuba

Mosher: “This is what really separates him: When you look at the way Vic (Fangio) rolls his safeties, up and down, maybe even potentially playing inside when he wants to go man on a five-out and he needs that safety to come play the slot, that’s where Mukuba is going to give you that versatility.”

Caplan: “He’s another guy, second round picks are expected to start when they’re ready and that’s where we’re at. He’s closing in on it, but he hasn’t won it yet. He’s developing.”

Ty Robinson

Mosher: “I liked what I saw from Ty Robinson in this regard: when he makes a mistake, he makes it at 100 miles per hour. He overshot a gap on a zone [run] against the Browns and then he provided that cutback lane…I also saw him pushing guys back, using his hands, using that violence that he plays with. I was impressed. He’s certainly etching his way to get some time in that backup pass rushing line.”

Caplan: “He’s developing. He also might be a better game player in-season because he has incredible energy and you can play him at multiple positions.”

Mac McWilliams

Mosher: “Vic (Fangio) is now working him on the outside which is giving some other guys who I don’t think are going to make the team a chance to work in the slot…He is giving Mac McWilliams an opportunity to showcase what he has got.”

Caplan: “He has corner and nickel possibilities here. He might play in dime when they play dime. Whether he dresses each week depends on the other corners and roles.”

Myles Hinton

Caplan: “Their hope is that he will be the long-term swing tackle. Really athletic, lot of talent there but he’s very raw. He needs time to develop.”

Darius Cooper

Caplan: “Cooper has been the darling, not only of the UDFA class, he has been phenomenal. Another really good practice Monday. The good thing is he has inside-outside versatility. He has been a training camp superstar.”

Mosher: “Plenty of first team reps on Monday which has been the third or fourth practice in a row that he has been getting first team reps. This is not an accident, this is a guy who has to be on the 53.”
