‘Landslide MVP’

ITB: Midseason Awards for the Philadelphia Eagles

There is plenty of credit to go around for the Philadelphia Eagles and their 7-2 start to the 2024 season.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan gave their choices for Eagles midseason awards.

Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley

Geoff Mosher: “Our offensive MVP is a landslide. I don’t know what the Eagles would be without Saquon Barkley at this point.”

Adam Caplan: “They would be a below .500 team. Yes, their defense has been a nice story, but Barkley is such a big part of what they do. It’s almost similar to Lamar (Jackson) and Derrick Henry. Now that (Jalen) Hurts is back as a runner, when Jalen pulls it out and runs, the defense is totally faked out.”

Cam Jurgens

Caplan: “Most improved guy on offense is Cam Jurgens. He is definitely ahead of schedule.”

Grant Calcaterra

Mosher: “He’s not a great blocker, he never was, but at least he’s adequate and when Dallas Goedert missed three games, he was able to get in there and be adequate and also establish a nice pass catching report with Jalen Hurts.”

Jemal Singleton

Caplan: “He coaches really hard but really well and guys respond to him. His work with Barkley, the vision and second-level running, I can’t imagine he did it on his own, it has to be coaching.”

Zack Baun

Mosher: “Zack Baun through the first half is MVP on defense.”

Caplan: “The two best players for the Eagles so far are Barkley and Zack Baun. Howie (Roseman) wanted Baun to be a backup edge, but Vic Fangio saw him as an inside linebacker. It’s just one of those all-time stories.”

Mosher: “All of the first round picks on this defense, and we are talking about a guy who has never even played this position before.”

Nakobe Dean

Caplan: “You would have to pick him as the most improved player. He’s now looking like a good third round pick.”

Christian Parker

Mosher: “Best coaching job on defense. There is one that I’m giving it to because of how far this guy had to come with his personnel, and that’s Christian Parker. The way the Eagles secondary dis-functioned last year, for Parker to come here and get these young kids playing well, to have these guys understand how to defend bunch formations, misdirections and motion, they are playing at so much higher of a level.”
