Got More Fight?
Inside The Tape: After Disruptions Vs. Bills, Can Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter Do Same Vs. 49ers?
After a dismal first half offensively, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense awoke after the break in Sunday’s 37-34 overtime win over Buffalo.
Some key runs by D’Andre Swift and clutch throws from Hurts sparked the offense, while second-year defensive tackle Jordan Davis popped on tape for his run defense despite exhaustion settling in for the 340-pound nose tackle.
“That play got everything going,” Greg Cosell said of Swift’s 36-yard run in the third quarter, aided by Jason Kelce and Cam Jurgens blocks, to set up Hurts’ touchdown pass to A.J. Brown.
“That drive by [offensive coordinator] Brian Johnson, the way he called it, was brilliant. That’s the drive that really got them into the game, offensively.”
Cosell and former Eagles tight end Clay Harbor shared more observations from the All-22 in the most recent episode of “Inside The Tape” on Inside The Birds.
Harbor observed that Davis, the emerging second-year nose tackle from Georgia who was the Eagles’ 2022 first-round pick, “was very impressive.”
“End of the game, got some big tackles down that final drive to hold them to that field goal,” Harbor said of Davis’ play in overtime.
Cosell noted that Davis looked “totally winded” by the fourth quarter but “came back in overtime and made three great plays in the run game that were super impressive.”
As for Sunday’s game against the 49ers at the Linc, Harbor showed some All-22 clips of how the Niners use motion and formation variation to confuse defenses on offense along with visuals of a fierce front four pass rush that includes Nick Bosa and Chase Young.
“That front group, particularly that front six in nickel,” added Cosell, “is as good as there is in the NFL.”
