Hero To … Zero?

D'Andre Swift Becomes First Eagle to Ever Wear Number 0

by

Among the newly announced Philadelphia Eagles jersey numbers is a franchise first.

Running back D’Andre Swift, recently traded from the Detroit Lions, will become the first Eagle to wear number 0.

The Eagles are now able to benefit from their own rule, as they were at the forefront of the proposal to allow teams to wear zero on the back of their jerseys for the first time in NFL history beginning in the 2023 season.

Swift joins a group wearing the number zero on the back of their jersey that is headlined by Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley, Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones, and Tennessee Titans cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting.

Philadelphia also announced new numbers for their other offseason acquisitions.

Fellow new member of the backfield, Rashaad Penny, will take over No. 23 – formerly worn by C.J. Gardner-Johnson – and safety Terrell Edmunds will wear No. 26, previously worn by Miles Sanders.

Rookie first-round defensive tackle Jalen Carter chose No. 98 and his Georgia teammate-turned-Eagles teammate Nolan Smith, the team’s other first-round pick, will wear No. 3.
