TE, RB Become Latest Adds In Free Agency
The Eagles have agreed to terms on one-year deals with a pair of external free agents, adding depth pieces at running back and tight end. Dameon Pierce, a signing announced by the team Thursday afternoon, gives the Eagles additional depth at running back behind Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley.
Pierce, 26, entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2022. The Florida product rushed for 939 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie, adding another 165 yards and a touchdown as a receiver, but was never able to match that production, combining for 709 yards four touchdowns over his next two seasons.

Pierce was waived by the Texans in November, finishing the 2025 season on the Chiefs’ practice squad. His signing will have no impact on the comp pick formula because he had been waived already.
The 5-foot-10, 215-pounder could potentially garner a look as a kick returner. In 20 opportunities, all with the Texans, Pierce has rolled up 656 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles also agreed to terms with former New York Jets tight end Stone Smartt, a league source confirmed the initial report from NFL Media. Smartt, 27, pulled in seven receptions for 52 yards for the Jets last season, appearing in 15 games (one starts) and logging 85 offensive snaps. He totaled 138 third phase snaps, a note of importance as special teams is likely to be Smartt’s path toward a roster spot.
Smartt, who originally signed as a rookie free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022, appeared in 38 games (six starts) over three seasons. He pulled in 31 receptions for 380 yards and a touchdown. His highest snap share came in 2023, when he logged 309, accounting for 28 percent of the team’s total.
The well-traveled Smartt began his collegiate career at Northern Arizona, with a stop at Riverside City before ultimately finishing out his collegiate tenure at Old Dominion. A quarterback in high school and part of his college career, Smartt was named the NJCAA Athletic Bureau Offensive Player of the Year in 2018, after throwing for 2,754 yards and 31 touchdowns and totaling 583 rushing yards. He converted to wide receiver in 2021, recording 167 receiving yards on 17 catches.
