Surgery For Maddox

Eagles Nickel CB Has Torn Pec

by

As expected, Eagles nickel cornerback Avonte Maddox will be shelved for quite a while, perhaps the rest of the season, to undergo another surgery.

Maddox tore his pectoral muscle in Thursday’s win over the Vikings, NFL Media confirmed, leaving the Eagles thinner at an already thin position for maybe the rest of 2023 as Maddox is expected to be sidelined indefinitely.

GETTY IMAGES: Nickel CB Avonte Maddox once again will be shelved for a prolonged time, this time because of a torn pec.

As reported on Monday’s Inside The Birds, Maddox would need surgery if the tear in his pec muscle was more than just a slight tear.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni semi-confirmed the news Monday in his press conference, saying Maddox would be out “quite a bit” and went into discussing his other options.

“We feel we have good in-house options there,” Sirianni said.

Options to replace Maddox in the nickelback slot include Justin Evans, who also plays safety, along with second-year pro Mario Goodrich or perhaps in some packages using James Bradberry on the inside with the outside void filled by Josh Jobe.

Maddox, who has missed several games because of injuries, including a toe injury in 2022 that required a procedure, has one year remaining after 2023 on the three-year extension he signed after the 2021 season.

He has played in just 11 games since the start of last season.
