Big Deal

Birds, Mammoth NT Agree On Mega Extension

by

While much of the conversation around the Eagles in the days since the NFL Scouting Combine have centered on free agency, Eagles executive vice president/general manager Howie Roseman was proactive in ensuring a young defensive tackle remains in the fold for the foreseeable future.

The Eagles and fifth-year defensive tackle Jordan Davis agreed to terms Sunday on a three-year extension worth $78 million, a league source confirmed the initial reports from NFL Media and ESPN.

The extension keeps Davis in Philadelphia through 2029. Of the $78 million, $65 million is guaranteed, per the report. Davis’ fifth-year option carried a charge of $12.9 million.

The extension shouldn’t be viewed as Davis being rewarded for a breakout 2025 campaign but rather what the team anticipates him contributing in the ensuing years to follow.

Jordan Davis is one of the highest paid interior defensive linemen after reaching a mega extension with the Eagles on Sunday.

Davis in 2025 logged a career high in regular season defensive snaps (686), accounting for 61% of the team’s total. Although previously typecast exclusively as a one-dimensional run defender, Davis proved to be an interior disruptor, generating 72 tackles (nine for loss), 4.5 sacks and six quarterback hits. He was also credited with nine pass deflections.

That production wasn’t merely the byproduct of a contract year; Davis had emerged as a multifaceted interior presence late in the 2024 season, intriguing the Eagles enough to pick up his fifth-year option.

Conditioning had been a popular talking point as it pertained to Davis, but the burly defensive tackle arrived for training camp trim and in optimal playing shape, setting the wheels in motion for his career season and proving the Eagles correct in their leap of faith.

In addition to Davis’ on-field success, the 26-year-old has developed into a core team leader and spokesman, setting the temperature with his radiant positive energy and candor. The Georgia product exudes leadership qualities that could conceivably elevate him into a team captain role. When he speaks, it carries weight.

The Eagles drafted Davis with the No. 13 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Over four seasons, he’s produced 162 tackles (15 for loss), eight sacks, 12 quarterback hits and 10 passes defended over 64 games (56 starts).
