by

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles kicked off their first-round playoff preparation Wednesday with their first practice of the week. Once the gates to the practice field swung open at 2:55 p.m., the focus shifted to taking player attendance, as several key building blocks were ruled out ahead of Sunday’s season finale.

To recap: Sidelined last week were RT Lane Johnson (foot), DT Jalen Carter (hip), TE Dallas Goedert (knee), OLB Jaelan Phillips (ankle), LB Nakobe Dean (hamstring) and S Marcus Epps (concussion).

The Eagles hit the practice field Wednesday with 21 starters available as they get ready to face the 49ers in a Wild Card game.

On Wednesday, present in the stretch line at the start of practice were Johnson, Carter, Goedert, Phillips, Dean and Epps. If you’re keeping score, the Eagles had 21 of 22 starters participating in the session in some capacity, an impressive feat this late in the season.

Johnson, who missed the last seven games with a Lis Franc injury, is in line to make his first start since Nov. 16. Dean sustained a hamstring injury on Dec. 27 against the Commanders, missing the final two regular season contests.

The two players not spotted during Wednesday’s practice were TE Grant Calcaterra and OL Brett Toth. Calcaterra exited Sunday’s game with a knee/ankle injury, while Toth was evaluated for a concussion late in the game and never returned. Their respective statuses will be monitored throughout the week.

The first injury report of the week will be out later today.
