Epps Return
Report: Birds Bringing Back Safety From '22 Super Bowl Team
Whittling the safety room down to three in the wake of the decision to waive Tristin McCollum and create room for waiver claim Willie Lampkin, the Eagles bolstered the backend Wednesday evening.
According to a report from NFL Network, the Eagles are bringing back veteran Marcus Epps.

It’s unclear whether Epps will be on the 53-man roster or practice squad.
[UPDATE: Epps was signed to the practice squad, along with punt returner Britain Covey].
Epps, who this offseason signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, among among the veterans released ahead of Tuesday’s roster cutdowns.
Epps, 29, in 2022 started all 17 regular-season games and postseason contests for the Eagles en route to their clash with the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. That season, he led all Eagles defenders in snaps (1,096).
In four seasons with the Eagles, Epps appeared in 54 games (25 starts). He departed in free agency during the 2023 offseason, inking a two-year, $12 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. Epps, in his first season with the team, started all 17 games. He suffered an ACL tear three games into his second season and signed a free-agent deal with the Patriots in March.
Epps, a 2019 sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, originally joined the Eagles via waivers in 2019. For three seasons, Epps served as a dependable role player and special teams contributor before elevating into a starting role. With the Eagles, the Wyoming product joins a safety contingent that includes Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown and rookie Drew Mukuba, the latter of whom remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
All things being equal, Epps projects to undertake a role similar to the early part of his initial tenure with the Eagles as a special teams contributor while lending the occasional hand on defense.
