Cine Signed

Birds Add (Another) Former Bulldog DB

The Eagles on Wednesday filled its roster vacancy by adding to its growing list of one-time Georgia Bulldogs, signing safety Lewis Cine to the active roster.

Cine, who claimed the spot recently occupied by quarterback Ian Book, was most recently a member of the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.

GETTY IMAGES: The Eagles added another former Georgia Bulldog to their 53 in signing S Lewis Cine.

He spent his first two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the first round in 2022. Cine suffered a compound fracture injury to his left leg a few games into his rookie campaign, which ended his season, and never found his footing.

Cine has appeared in 11 career games – including one this season with the Bills – and accumulated one tackle.

In Philadelphia, Cine reunites with Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean, Jordan Davis and Kelee Ringo, perhaps conjuring a fresh start.

It’s a bit curious to see the Eagles add Cine to a room that already has C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Reed Blankenship, Tristin McCollum and Sydney Brown, though it is worth noting that Cine, in his few appearances, undertook a prominent special teams role.

While there’s an outside shot that Cine was brought in to bolster special teams coverage, more likely is that Cine was added with the future in mind – akin to Reserve/Futures deal.

Cine will have a chance to acclimate into the playbook and head coach Nick Sirianni’s culture for the playoff run before competing in the offseason to stay on the 53.

Interesting signing. I wonder if he makes a good TE matchup and is a blitzer?
