Campbell Signed To 53 – Again

Birds Pad Hurting WR Group by Re-Signing Veteran

The Eagles made several moves Saturday before the transaction deadline, including the signing of wide receiver Parris Campbell to the 53-man roster.

The move marks Campbell’s second time on the Eagles’ 53-man roster and signals that depth could be an issue for the Eagles on Sunday against the Ravens in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium.

GETTY IMAGES: WR Parris Campbell was signed to the Eagles’ 53-man roster to bolster depth.

The team listed wide receivers DeVonta Smith and downgraded Johnny Wilson to out, with each nursing a hamstring injury. Smith missed last Sunday’s game against the Rams and was only a limited participant at practice Thursday and Friday. Wilson, the 6-foot-7 rookie, made a sudden appearance on Friday’s injury report and didn’t practice.

If Smith can’t go, the Eagles would enter the game against Baltimore with A.J. Brown, Jahan Dotson, rookie Ainias Smith, Britain Covey and Campbell as their only receivers.

The Eagles also placed linebacker Ben VanSumeren on Injured Reserve after the second-year pro injured his knee in practice Friday. His spot on the 53 was taken by Campbell but his snaps on special teams could be filled by practice squad linebacker Ochaun Mathis, who was elevated along with veteran tight end C.J. Uzomah.

Uzomah will be out of regular season elevations after Sunday’s game.
