Birds Make Roster Moves; Goedert Still Out
PHILADELPHIA — As the Eagles draw within a week of their showdown against the Green Bay Packers in San Paulo, Brazil, team logistics and guidelines have become a focal point.
The Eagles, who fly out Wednesday, were given explicit directives this week to exercise proper safety measures.
While the trip will be without sightseeing or fine dining, the sole objective illustrates a business-like approach for the Eagles – win the game, fly back home.
“We had a meeting yesterday and it was a whole bunch of don’t-dos,” wide receiver A.J. Brown said. “So, I’m just trying to go down there, win a football game and come back home.”
What, specifically, aren’t they supposed to do?
“A lot,” he said. “Honestly. Things we would normally do here, even as simple as just walking down the street with your phone in your hand and stuff like that – which is kinda crazy.”
“They just told us to kinda stay in the hotel and stay in that area,” offensive lineman Nick Gates echoed. “But we’re there to play a football game, and that’s what they hinted at. So, we’re there for, I think, two days. Business trip. So, we go in, hopefully get a win, and go home.”
With an emphasis on fine-tuning the game day operation, the Eagles on Thursday practiced at Lincoln Financial Field.
Among the notable observations were that TE Dallas Goedert (oblique), WR Johnny Wilson (concussion), EDGE Jalyx Hunt (oblique) and CB Isaiah Rodgers (unknown) didn’t practice.
Elsewhere, veteran OL Brett Toth – signed Thursday to the practice squad – was on the field and in uniform.
Second-year safety Sydney Brown, returning from an ACL injury, worked off to the side while teammates stretched, getting in some sprints. Super Bowl winning head coach Tony Dungy was also in attendance.
The Eagles made more alterations to their 53-man roster Thursday, claiming defensive tackle Byron Young via waivers. Young, a 2023 third-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, appeared in six games last season, registering four tackles.
Fourth-year defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu was released in a corresponding move, a testament to how the team views reserves Moro Ojomo and Thomas Booker IV.
In injury news, James Bradberry was placed on injured reserve. The veteran defensive back sustained a lower leg injury during Wednesday’s practice, with an expected recovery time of 6-to-8 weeks.
Replacing Bradberry on the 53-man roster was veteran linebacker Oren Burks, who was promoted from the practice squad, giving the Eagles six inside linebackers on the active roster. For reference, the team last season rostered just three inside linebackers.
In former Eagles news, third-year CB Josh Jobe signed to Seahawks’ practice squad, while defensive tackle P.J. Mustipher signed with the Cardinals’ practice squad and rookie running back Kendall Milton signed to Cincinnati Bengals practice squads.
Jobe appeared in 28 regular season games (three starts) and four postseason contests. A strong special teamer, Jobe appeared on the 2023 Pro Bowl ballot.
