ITB: Major Depth Questions Facing the Eagles

by

The Philadelphia Eagles will use this week to search for answers on major depth questions.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed the latest Eagles developments ahead of joint practices with the Cleveland Browns.

Landon Dickerson

Geoff Mosher: “You can call this a minor procedure, and it is, but when you’re having a minor procedure a few months after you have had a procedure in February which follows the four procedures you had in a college, that’s a lot of wear and tear and it’s all in the same area. Every time you go under the knife, it’s a little more wear and tear…It’s hard to see this guy be able to play five to 10 more years, they’re going to need a succession plan by next year.”

Adam Caplan: “If Dickerson is not right, don’t play him. You have a long season.”

Brett Toth

Caplan: “Right now it’s Brett Toth [at left guard]. I know [Jeff Stoutland] believes in him, but he has not developed at any one position. They clearly like him…but this guy is not a starting level player if Dickerson’s not ready.”

Defensive Tackle

Mosher: “They traded Thomas Booker and Gabe Hall is hurt. Their starters are fine, but it’s behind them that are pretty thin.”

Caplan: “They have enough bodies to put out there for practices, but if this is the regular season, Byron Young has played in one NFL game, Ty Robinson and Gabe Hall have never played in one, these other guys are just street undrafted free agents. You just cannot afford another guy to get hurt. They like going young, but it’s all about depth and rotations.”

Drew Mukuba

Mosher: “He made it back to that practice before the Bengals game…he didn’t play in the game, they withheld him to make sure he is fully healthy for his week. This is a big week going up against the Browns in joint practice.”

Caplan: “It is because they need to know by the end of the August if this guy is going to start this year. If he’s starting, they don’t need to do anything at safety.”

Cornerbacks

Mosher: “Big weeks for the corners. You want to see (Kelee) Ringo, Adoree Jackson, and Jakorian Bennett be able to handle their responsibilities.”
