‘Best Name on the List’

ITB: Could Kingsbury Be in Play at OC?

Offensive coordinator jobs are quickly filling up around the NFL, but the Philadelphia Eagles are still on the hunt.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher provided updated intel on the coordinator search.

Kliff Kingsbury

Mike McDaniel

Adam Caplan: “He just didn’t fit stylistically with (Jalen) Hurts. Hurts is just not a timing and rhythm thrower.”

Brian Daboll

Caplan: “I’m not saying he used the Eagles, he talked to them. What happened was that Tennessee showed him a lot of love, put the full court press on him.”

Mosher: “The questions we’re getting of why Brian Daboll would want to go to Tennessee over Philadelphia. I think people must say there are some questions about the Eagles as far as does the scheme someone wants to run fit the personnel that has been in place for four or five years now? But also, a smart candidate is going into this and wondering is A.J. Brown on the team next year, is Lane Johnson healthy and playing next year, how does the team feel about the center and left guard’s ability to come back and play at a level prior to [injury], is Dallas Goedert here next year?”

Matt Nagy

Caplan: “If you’re getting a second interview, it’s probably going to be in person if he gets one. Obviously, he knows Howie (Roseman). It’s where he’s from, started his career.”

Mosher: “The Eagles need a proven playcaller. He himself called plays for two years [in Chicago] then gave it to Bill Lazor, then took it back and gave it back to Bill in year four. It almost sounds Nick Sirianni-ish. I get the familiarity, he’s coming from a great coaching tree, but you’re looking for a proven playcaller.”

Mosher: “He’s out there and you’re wondering what his next move is going to be. We have detailed in the past that the Eagles have had interest in him and why it didn’t work out. But he years later, he could be looking at a position differently. If you’re looking for someone who can work with the current personnel and spice up the scheme, that’s a good name.”

Caplan: “Dan Quinn did not see eye-to-eye with him from what we understand. I could not believe what he got out of the run game [in Washington]. He’s the best name on the list.”
