‘A Lot Different’
ITB: Cosell Says New Look Birds Can Make Noise
The Philadelphia Eagles ultimately control their own destiny in a competitive NFC East.
On the final episode of the four-part preview of the NFC East, Greg Cosell joined “Inside The Birds” hosts Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher to look at the Eagles’ 2024 season.

Kellen Moore
Greg Cosell: “He is very multiple, you are going to see a lot of different personnel packages. He is a believer in motion so we are going to see how that all plays out. This is going to be a different looking offense…if you start using a lot of motion, what it does is shrink the menu for the defense. They can’t get caught in all of these different adjustments because if one guy makes a mistake it is a big problem.”
Saquon Barkley
Cosell: “I don’t think you bring in Saquon Barkley unless you plan on him being a foundation piece…any given game, he can break off 60 yards for a touchdown. But despite his size, he doesn’t run like a power runner. Power backs is when it looks like it is blocked for three [yards], you get seven.”
Jalen Hurts
Cosell: “I spoke to coaches who were on the Eagles staff. The biggest challenge you are going to face with Hurts is his expansive ability to be able to be a full field player. The year they made the Super Bowl, in the middle of the season they cut their offense down because he is not a full field reader.”
Jalen Carter
Cosell: “He flashed ridiculous greatness but didn’t play at a high enough level all the time. It was okay in the sense that he was a rookie who only played 30-35 snaps a game in college, so there was going to be an adjustment despite the outrageous physical traits that he brings to the table. Now you want him to be able to play 55-60 snaps a game and be a dominant force.”
Cooper DeJean
Cosell: “I think he can be a dynamite slot [cornerback]. I think he’s got some concerns on the outside. He is a really good football player.”
C.J. Gardner Johnson
Cosell: “C.J. Gardner-Johnson has a great feel for reading splits and routes. He is just an innately smart player, so he fits really well into this defense and can be used in multiple ways.”
