ITB Postgame Live: Lot to Like About Hurts

by

The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a 28-22 victory over the Minnesota Vikings thanks to a return to form in the passing game.

On the Week 7 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher dove into the highs and lows from the latest win.

Jalen Hurts

Adam Caplan: “Second half, it was just bombs away. Some throws inside, which you like. Hurts had a monstrous second half…He’s not bailing to look to run, he’s moving to create a passing lane to throw the football, that’s a positive sign. This game in the second half, hung in there, didn’t move, and delivered. That pass to (DeVonta) Smith is one of the best deep balls of his career that he has thrown.”

Geoff Mosher: “That pass to DeVonta Smith, to me that represented Jalen Hurts getting back to what he does best. We’re not surprised when he throws a touchdown like that because that is his strength. But I thought the touchdown to A.J. Brown in the third quarter was his best pass because that was a threading of two defenders.”

Pass Protection

Caplan: “The pass protection, despite (Cam) Jurgens leaving early and Brett Toth replacing him, they found a way to hang in there.”

Mosher: “Curiously, they decided to put Brett Toth in at center and keep Landon Dickerson at left guard…We all know that Toth has trouble snapping in the shotgun. I noticed that they went under center quite a bit in the second half and Hurts made some throws under center.”

Special Teams

Mosher: “They’re inventing a way each week to be disappointing on special teams. It used to be the botching and muffing of returns, now it’s an illegal formation and an illegal double team on back-to-back kickoff returns in the second half.”

Caplan: “Jake Elliott’s kick, it’s only his first missed kick of the season. I thought automatic Jake was back, but we’ll have to take a look at that.”

Nakobe Dean

Mosher: “When he came on to the field, (Jihaad) Campbell moved to the edges because the Eagles were so thin. Now I wonder when Brandon Graham comes out of retirement and suits up, then you might not need Campbell playing as many edge reps…It’s good that Vic (Fangio) has optionality.”
