Giving Them the EDGE

ITB: What BG and Other Transactions Provide

The 5-2 Philadelphia Eagles are set to bring in enforcements at key positions lacking depth, including the return of the franchise’s longest tenured player.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan gave intel on the team’s recent moves.

Brandon Graham

Geoff Mosher: “I’m not convinced that if Brandon Graham has a good full week of practice, that he won’t at least play a few snaps as long as the triceps are fine and he’s healthy and conditioned. Like with Za’Darius Smith, he had no OTAs, no training camp, he was literally off the street, show he could play, and he played, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Graham was in a limited role.”

Adam Caplan: “From what we understand, he’s in really good physical shape, that does not mean in game shape, so (Vic) Fangio will find out. The Eagles have three healthy edges on the roster right now, it is a centimeter thin.”

Jihaad Campbell

Caplan: “Basically, when Campbell lined up on the edge, he was an add-in defender against the run. He played almost exclusively on the edge as a base down player, he really didn’t rush the passer.”

Jakorian Bennett

Mosher: “He is in the 21-day practice window. This is another guy Vic (Fangio) is looking at if he’s conditioned enough. He never really had a chance to play in Vic’s defense, which is not easy to learn for a corner, and then he got hurt. He may not have a choice if he’s active because you could be one injury away from getting in the game.”

Caplan: “They need him. You can’t predict injuries and he has had so many problems in his career.”

Sua Opeta

Mosher: “Opeta is on the practice squad. It does give them someone that Jeff Stoutland is familiar with. He can play both sides, but he was also available for a reason too. It’s not like he was poached from a team, he was signed to the practice squad off the street. I don’t even know what kind of shape he’s in.”

Caplan: “They’re going to find out very quickly because their depth on the offensive line is another area where they’re really thin.”
