For the Future
Eagles Sign Practice Squad Players to Reserve/Future Deals
Less than 24 hours removed from playoff elimination, the Eagles, unsurprisingly, wasted little time beginning to shape the roster going into the offseason. While common practice league-wide once a season ends, the Eagles identified eight in-house players, while hardly household names to most, who necessitated a longer look in the coming months.
On Monday, the Eagles signed the following players to Reserve/Future deals: LB Chance Campbell, DB Tariq Castro-Fields, WR Danny Gray, DT Gabe Hall, DB Brandon Johnson, C Jake Majors, T Hollin Pierce and WR Quez Watkins.
Each player listed finished the season on the Eagles’ practice squad, with Hall and Johnson appearing in multiple regular season games. During the season, the vast majority of practice squad players have their auxiliary lockers stationed in the middle of the locker room, opposed to the traditional wall lockers typically reserved for those on the active roster.
A little “inside baseball” here, but among the players listed, Castro-Fields, Hall and Johnson were issued wall lockers, with Johnson and Hall remaining there all season.
Previous evaluations and information gathered throughout the season influenced my perspective on the Reserve/Future signings I’m most intrigued to see once the Eagles resume practices in the spring.

LB Chance Campbell
Signed days before the Eagles’ final preseason game (Campbell tore his ACL and missed the entire 2024 season), Campbell showed enough in the finale to warrant staying power, and was just one of seven Eagles to sign to the practice squad ahead of Week 1 and remain all season. The 26-year-old, who appeared in four games with the Titans, the team that drafted him in the sixth round in 2022, overlapped in Tennessee with Eagles linebackers coach Bobby King. That familiarity, coupled with a year of being around the team, could give Campbell an edge at rounding out the positional depth in 2026.
WR Danny Gray
Gray, you may recall, was someone who piqued my interest last offseason. A 2022 third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers, Gray was lauded by teammates — including Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean — for giving the secondary fits in practice. The speedy wideout suffered a finger injury early in training camp and was waived, only to return to the practice squad during the season once his injury was healed. The speedy wideout, on clean-out day, was seen carrying a handful of jerseys from teammates as a keepsake — including one from every Eagles wide receiver — and could do little to contain his excitement regarding the prospects of having another opportunity to showcase his ability.
DB Brandon Johnson
Johnson, who offers the versatility to play nickel and safety, quietly put together a productive training camp and was among an exclusive group of Eagles who were signed to the practice squad ahead of Week 1 and remained all season. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Johnson, who boasts plenty of speed, along with instincts and range, was elevated for the final three regular season games, garnering snaps at safety in two of those contests. Johnson started at safety in the season finale, accumulating 23 snaps before an ankle injury forced an early exit, landing him on the practice squad injured list to end the season. My understanding is that the injury isn’t deemed to be serious and isn’t expected to impact Johnson’s offseason training. Given the need for depth at cornerback and safety, Johnson should have an opportunity to make the leap to the 53-man roster.
C Jake Majors
Majors, who holds a program record at Texas for most career starts (57) was someone I had a draftable grade on entering the 2025 NFL Draft. While considered to be on the smaller side for the position, Majors uses leverage to his advantage and possesses a high-level of intelligence required to play the position at the highest level. The 23-year-old, originally a rookie free agent signings of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signed with the Eagles on Sept. 9 and remained on the practice squad for the remainder of the season. Perhaps a year of practice and meetings under position coach Jeff Stoutland gives him an advantage entering Year 2.
