Cam To The Rescue?

Birds Center At Practice Again

by

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles on Thursday held their second practice of the week at their windy confines of South Philadelphia. While Wednesday’s session was a scheduled walkthrough that took place indoors, the team returned to the NovaCare Complex outside practice fields.

Each member of the 53-man roster was practicing in some capacity, which means that participating again for the second consecutive day was C Cam Jurgens, sporting a hefty brace around his right knee.

One player who was working off to the side with a trainer was OLB Patrick Johnson, who reverted back to the practice squad following his game elevation in Green Bay. Johnson has one remaining elevation.

Rookie T Cameron Williams (shoulder; injured reserve) continues to work on a side field. Normally, Williams can be spotted working with fellow rookie T Myles Hinton, but today I only saw Williams.

As a result of Wednesday’s walkthrough, the practice report was an estimation that looked as followed:

LIMITED – G Landon Dickerson (quad), T Lane Johnson (ankle), C Cam Jurgens (knee), G Tyler Steen (oblique)

FULL – LS Cal Adomitis (finger), CB Jakorian Bennett (pectoral), WR Darius Cooper (shoulder), G/C Willie Lampkin (knee/ankle), OLB Nolan Smith (triceps)

Fangio offers endorsement

Newly acquired pass rusher Jaelan Phillips wasted little time integrating himself in his new defensive system, rolling up six tackles, a fumble recovery and over a half-dozen pressures in his debut.

Phillips, who accounted for 53 of the Eagles’ 68 snaps (78%), showcased a multi-faceted skill set and relentless pursuit to the ball. And even though Phillips, in his introductory media scrum, suggested the transition might not be all that seamless despite his prior history with coordinator Vic Fangio, he wasn’t on a pitch count. Fangio turned him loose, which the veteran defensive mind indicated was part of the plan.

“That was the intention,” he said. “He’s been playing all year. It wasn’t like he was inactive.”

Fangio, who mentioned Thursday he was “all for it” when asked about the trade, then pointed to the history he and Phillips shared, dating back to 2023, when Fangio served as defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins. Phillips, in eight games, registered 6.5 sacks and 27 pressures before an Achilles injury ended his campaign prematurely.

On Monday night, Fangio saw in Phillips what he’d already known – and what those unfamiliar soon learned.

To paint the picture for those well versed in the world of high-end shopping, Fangio even drew an apt comparison for emphasis.

“You guys saw it,” he said. “He plays hard. He’s strong at the point, good pass rusher. When you shop at Nordstrom’s, you get good stuff.”

Practice squad shuffle

The Eagles on Thursday announced the signing of DE Titus Leo to the practice squad, releasing CB Ambry Thomas in a corresponding move.

Thomas was among the few who consistently remained on the practice squad this season in spite of the frequent shuffling.

Leo, 26, had a two-week stay on the Eagles’ practice squad in mid-October.
