Development At Corner?

New Face Spotted With CBs

by

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles on Thursday held their second practice of the week, which again provided encouraging news on the injury front.

For the second consecutive day, DT Jalen Carter (heel), LG Landon Dickerson (ankle) and CB Quinyon Mitchell (hamstring) were present and participating during the media attended portion of practice.

Carter, listed as a full participant Wednesday, already said he’s playing this week. As for Dickerson and Mitchell, both were listed as limited on the initial injury report. Thursday’s status update, released later this afternoon, will provide more clarity.

As for TE Grant Calcaterra (oblique), the fourth-year pro was sidelined for the second consecutive practice.

Following the team stretch to kick things off, the Eagles, as they do every Thursday, focused early on special teams. The coverage unit worked on a far field, while the punt returners – Jahan Dotson, Britain Covey, Xavier Gipson and Quez Watkins — took turns fielding punts.

On the other side of that field, however, defensive backs coach Christian Parker, as he typically does, was working with cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Adoree’ Jackson. But the notable addition to that group this week was rookie cornerback Brandon Johnson, who has been part of the practice squad since the start of the season.

That Johnson was working with the projected starting cornerback tandem was interesting, perhaps suggesting he could be considered for one of the two practice squad elevations this week. It registered as interesting, if nothing else.

Other news

The team’s trio of offensive linemen on injured reserve – Myles HintonCam Williams and Willie Lampkin – was out on the field working on a side field. And later, OLB Nolan Smith, WR Darius Cooper and CB Jakorian Bennett were spotted walking with a trainer. It’s worth noting that all three were placed on injured reserve on Sept. 24. They are eligible to return as soon as next week.

Practice squad number update

There are some number updates for four members of the Eagles’ practice squad. CB Tariq Castro-Fields now wears No. 41. The recently added TE Jaheim Bell and DE Titus Leo have been issued Nos. 46 and 50, respectively. And WR Quez Watkins has switched from No. 46 to No. 86, previously worn by Javon Baker.
