Birds Make Additions, Subtractions First 53-Man Roster

by

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles on Wednesday made a flurry of transactions, altering the margins of their initial 53-man roster.

Gone are OL Trevor Keegan and S Tristin McCollum, as LS Charley Hughlett and C Willie Lampkin were ushered in.

Lampkin (5-11, 279) was originally a rookie free agent signing of the Rams. The North Carolina product suffered a knee injury in addition to an ankle sprain during preseason play. Joining a crowded offensive line room, Lampkin can develop under renowned offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.

Hughlett, who signed with the Eagles in free agency, returns after falling short of making the initial 53-man roster. The veteran long snapper battled a neck injury early in camp but returned to finish out the summer. He’ll be a key part of the three-man specialist operation that includes K Jake Elliott and P Braden Mann.

The Eagles claimed C Willie Lampkin off waivers from the Rams.

Keegan, a 2024 fifth-round pick, played 35 snaps last season for the Eagles. In camp, he showcased interior versatility and could resurface on the practice squad if not claimed. McCollum, 26, appeared in 14 games last season for the Eagles, logging 250 snaps on defense and another 227 on special teams. It’s also worth mentioning he also has a fan in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Like Keegan, McCollum could return to the Eagles in a practice squad capacity.

The Eagles’ Wednesday practice saw the return of WR A.J. Brown (hamstring) and G Landon Dickerson (knee), who participated in practice in some capacity. Positive development with the opener looming.

While the Eagles roll with only three safeties (and do-it-all DB Cooper DeJean), not practicing today was rookie S Drew Mukuba (hamstring). In other injury news, QB Tanner McKee was spotted wearing a split of some sort on his injured right thumb.

The Eagles also signed the following players to their practice squad: LB Chance Campbell, WR Elijah Cooks, G Kenyon Green, TE E.J. Jenkins, CB Brandon Johnson, OLB Patrick Johnson, TE Cameron Latu, WR Terrace Marshall, QB Kyle McCord, CB Parry Nickerson, T Hollin Pierce, OLB Antwaun Powell-Ryland and CB Eli Ricks.

The only surprising signing was Campbell, who signed days before the preseason finale. Figured one of Dallas Gant or Lance Dixon would return on the practice squad, though the latter suffered an injury in the finale. The Eagles currently have three remaining spots, along with another slotted for an International Pathway Player.
