Steen Sidelined
Two OL Shelved Monday; Pads Come Out Tuesday
The always anticipated first Eagles training camp practice in pads will take place Tuesday, head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed Monday before practice.
Right guard Tyler Steen probably won’t be a participant when the pads come on, as the second-year pro will be “out for a little bit,” Sirianni said, adding it “shouldn’t be something that’s long.”

The team is listing Steen as having an ankle injury. Sirianni said Steen, competing to start, will be replaced by veteran Mekhi Becton, who has played left and right guard during camp as the former Jets first-rounder continues to audition as an interior offensive linemen.
Sirianni said Becton “has had a good camp so far” and that he looked forward to getting Becton more work next to right tackle Lane Johnson, who was out of Monday’s practice with a toe injury and replaced by reserve tackle Fred Johnson.
Others who were out Monday were linebacker Oren Burks (knee), who’s been out since last Wednesday’s first practice, and running back Saquon Barkley (personal).
Backup center Brett Toth, who hasn’t practiced yet because of a hamstring injury, was listed as a limited participant. Johnson’s toe injury isn’t considered serious.
As for Steen, Sirianni said the missed time hurts a little in the lineman’s attempt to win the starting job, but he’s not very concerned about Steen’s development.
“Obviously anytime you miss time it’s going to be a set back,” he said. “But that’s football. You’re going to have that with a lot of guys. They can’t control that now. It hurts that he’s not in there right now getting those full-speed reps because you get better at football by playing football but … he’ll be back as soon as he possibly can.”
Sirianni confirmed that Monday’s session was the last of the “acclimation process” and that the Eagles on Tuesday will practice in pads for the first time since the start of camp.
