"Something Good's Gonna Happen:" Q&A With Quintin Mikell, Jason Avant
The Eagles finished last in the NFC East last year, then fired their head coach, traded their starting quarterback, and made modest offseason upgrades. Where's that leave them for 2021? Of course, former Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant and former Eagles safety Quintin Mikell don't agree on where the Eagles should be projected to finish this year. On the latest "Q&A" on Inside The Birds, Avant said the team's draft misses over the past few years combined with front-office turmoil and other NFC East teams upgrading in the offseason leads to the Eagles "bringing in the rear" of the division. "As it stands today – listen to me Eagles fans, as it stands today – we're bringing in the rear," Avant said. "When it comes to transactions, when it comes to everything that's happened this offseason ... so many things we can point to, it's looking like that we are in a position to be third or fourth in our division. That's hard for me to say as an Eagles guy, but that's what it's looking like."
Mikell admitted that the Eagles weren't ready to win the division this year but sees the Eagles as better than last. He also isn't sold on Washington as the top team in the division. "I think it's more up in the air than you may think," Mikell told Avant. "I think anything can happen. I don't think we are going to be division champs, but I don't think we are going to be at the bottom of the division either. Maybe it's wishful thinking. There's something I feel right now that's changing the tide in that program. Maybe it's optimism – stupid optimism, but I have a feeling something good is gonna happen."
