Eagles Coach Tests Positive For Covid-19, Forces Virtual Meetings

The novel coronavirus has hit the Eagles this week as they prepare to come out of the bye week and battle NFC East rival New York. The team will shift into "intensive protocol" for Covid-19, according to a team source, after an unnamed coach tested positive. All classroom sessions and meetings will take place virtually, the team announced Tuesday, as anyone who came close to the coach will be in quarantine. Other slight adjustments to the weekly schedule will also be made to accommodate the protocols, the source added.

Despite the adjusted schedule, there are no indications that Sunday's 1 p.m. game against the Giants at MetLife Stadium will be postponed. Several teams have played this season despite having positive tests arise. The unnamed coach is the second Eagles coach to test positive. Head coach Doug Pederson missed time during training camp after testing positive. Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata and Nate Gerry were also placed on the Reserv/Covid-19 list during training camp. Not everyone who goes on the list tests positive for the coronavirus but might have come into contact with someone who did. Offensive guard Matt Pryor went on the Reserve/Covid-19 list and missed a game earlier this season because he came into close contact with someone who tested positive. Safety Marcus Epps was also on the list this season after testing positive. A source said that Pederson met with the team Tuesday to discuss the protocols this week. The Eagles were off Tuesday after a light Monday session. – Geoff Mosher (@geoffmoshernfl) is co-host of the "Inside the Birds" podcast and staff writer for InsideTheBirds.com.
