Eagles Fortify O-Line With Veteran OG

Help is on the way for the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line. Question is: Will it get here soon enough? After watching Carson Wentz get sacked eight times and roughed up even more behind a patchwork offensive line in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Washington Football Team, the Eagles on Tuesday signed veteran offensive guard Jamon Brown off the Chicago Bears' practice squad. This year, the CBA allows for teams to have a certain number of veterans on the practice squad. Brown, a five-year veteran, has started 47 of his 60 career games played. He spent last season with the Atlanta Falcons, starting nine of the 10 games in which he played.

(How soon can new Eagles OG Jamon Brown get on the field?)

Brown's experience make him an obvious upgrade over Nate Herbig, who made his NFL debut at right guard for the Eagles against Washington, and over backup Matt Pryor, who has fallen down the depth chart after initially being named the replacement at right guard for injured Pro Bowl lineman Brandon Brooks. The Eagles will start practice for Sunday's game against the Rams on Wednesday. The team will update the media on Brown's status. The Rams' defense is anchored by two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, an interior lineman with tremendous burst and explosion. According to a league personnel source who has scouted Brown's tape, Brown had "a decent year last year" with the Falcons, who released Brown as part of their roster cutdown. The 2015 third-round of the Rams is a "good athlete for his size," the scout added, noting Brown's 6-foot-4, 330-pound physique. "He's a big, talented guy," said the personnel source, adding that Brown has "average instincts" and is "more of a talent that a refined, technical guy." The scout described Brown as just OK in run defense but better in pass protection, noting a long frame and strong anchor. – For more info on Brown, check out Wednesday's Inside The Birds podcast with Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher.
